How to replace a roof?

Installing a new roof is one of the most vital facets of house improvement. Although the new roof is not necessarily glamorous, you will get to know how important it is once the old roof is failed. Roof replacement is one thing that should not be taken lightly and also the replacement should not be delayed. When you get to know that your roof is about to fail it’s time to give it a replacement.

Firstly, remove all the shingles and dump them in a dumpster. Also, the damage along with old valley flashing and drip edging is taken out. If the roof is in better condition make smaller repairs. Else remove the bad wood and replace it with a new plywood sheath.

Installing ice dam protection in areas that require it. This prevents the melting ice from getting stored under the shingle and also the penetration through the sheath is also stopped where the moisture can cause excess damage.

Asphalt roofing paper is laid on the roof sheath. These are generally attached or clipped in place. A metal drip edging is applied on the roof edge which is nailed in its position on the roofing paper or the ice guard. Along the regions where the two roof planes are meeting apply the new valley flashing. It is nailed to the roofing deck and roofing caulk is used to seal it. Tab shingles are applied, start at the eaves and work upward to the peak. Applying on all the areas where the leakage might enter inside the house. Installing the ridge vent is a good thing during the re-roofing of the house. If the ridge vents are not available then other types of roofs or gable vents need to be installed which will give air circulation in the attic space.
