When to replace a roof?
A lot of people do not actually think about the roof above their heads, but they will start to take notice when the roof springs a leak. You should not wait till the water starts pouring through the roof and you have to pay attention to your roof.
If you feel that you need a new roof, the first area you will check is not the exterior of your home, but it is your attic. Analyse your records of home improvement to see when was the last time the roof was replaced or re-shingled. If you know when was the roof replaced then you will get an insight into the life left.
When does a roof need to be replaced?
Keep checking the rooftop to make sure it is still in better condition, after heavy storms. Shingle should be lying flat on the roof. If you notice any cracks or the roof is damaged, buckled then repairs are needed. Check the points around the vents, skylights, and chimneys to make sure that no cracks are evident.
If the roof is dropping or sagging then it surely needs a replacement before any further damage takes place. Inspect the roof for any sign of moisture trapped, rotting boards, or sagging spots. If your roof has moss growing then it is not a good sign. If there is moss then surely the roof will have trapped moisture, which will ruin it.
Because you have a couple of shingles that are damaged, don’t expect that you need a totally different rooftop. If your rooftop has been installed appropriately and is not older than 15 or 20 years, it needs to be replaced. And if you have any doubts don’t hesitate to contact a professional expert.
